I am sure you have heard about the earthquake north of Chengdu in Sichuan province. We were not hit by the earthquake, but we did feel it. The buildings shook and glasses rattled. As of now the reports are that over 10,000 have died, and the towns, villages and cities around Chengdu are devastated. Nothing has been left standing. We have had reports of many Christians who have died and thousands who have lost their homes and all their possessions. On Thursday morning I will be going with a group of about 20 to Wen Chuan, the epi-center of the quake, to give as much assistance as we can to as many people as we can. I have been told that there are groups of Christians from all over China who are going to join us.
There is a great need there to assist those who have lost everything, not only everything they owned but also family members and friends.
I am asking for all the assistance you can give starting with prayer, but also any financial assistance you can offer. The losses will reach into the 100’s of millions if not billions of dollars. Some of this will be taken care of by the Chinese government, but that will be mainly infrastructure and medical.
What we are planning to do is assist the individual person and family, supplying food, clothing, housing, comfort and counseling. This will be offered not only to the believers, but to all. It is a great opportunity to show the love of Christ to those who have a great need. I pray that you will join me in this effort.
